Marvel One-Shot - A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor’s Hammer.
I can’t believe I’ve never seen this before and here we have even more proof on what an ultimate badass Phil Coulson is and I just want a Phil Movie now.
If someone gifs this you’ll be my best friend ever.

You found my weakness… it’s small knives!
This scene in the trailer made me excited for the movie! It looks like they really played with his personality.
I am more excited for this movie than I am for the Avengers. Don’t get me wrong, Avengers will be/is amazing and fun and action-packed and well-written and I want to see it really badly, but Spidey is the superhero of my childhood.
Does it bother anyone else that Black Widow is supposed to be a badass S.H.I.E.L.D. agent but all she does in the Avengers trailer is look confused and pout in front of explosions?
But I’m pretty sure she also was swinging around attacking some dude in her formalwear?? Just, you know, saying.
She did, for about half a second, and it’s followed by a shot of her flipping her hair in a sexy crouch. I’m pretty sure the two shots aren’t even in the same scene.
I’m not contesting that she won’t be used well, I just dislike the fact that all the male superheroes get an awesome action shot showing off their strength/power right before we see ScarJo pouting in front of an explosion. It kind of says, “All these men can kick some ass and then Black Widow has the power of hotness!” Why not use footage of her setting the bomb? Why only show the aftereffect? She’s not just there for show or to look good - she’s a badass S.H.I.E.L.D. agent! I wish the trailer had reflected that.
I guess I don’t feel like Natasha got the short shrift compared to Hawkeye, which contextualizes it out a bit. There was no scene Natasha appeared in that screamed sexy sexy like, say, her introduction as a lingerie model in IM2. (Eyeroll.) Posing nonchalant in front of an explosions, flipping your hair like it’s nbd, these are all pretty standard action movie cliches. To me, Black Widow standing around in front of an explosion is the rough equivalent of Hawkeye standing around with a bow. (He didn’t actually shoot anything, in that brief posey sequence post-explosion sequence.) It’s demonstrably more badass than Mark Ruffalo walking into a room. I’m not sure any of the dudes got a clip so physical— Natasha’s the only one who was fighting a bad guy, not shooting guns at mystery villains or getting thrown out of a window or teammates pitted against each other!! or one of those other two-second clippy things.
And I wonder, as I always do, if Black Widow is going to have to prove she’s there for something besides sex appeal in ways none of the guys will ever have to, despite being played by dreamy actors. Her hotness is going to be under more scrutiny than theirs is, so I’m automatically a bit skeptical of that scrutiny. I could also, admittedly, be a bit desensitized by a fandom that gives me trailers like this one.
Standing waif-like and looking down in front of an explosion is not badass. Having your only action move be that where you shove your crotch into someone else’s face is troublesome. Her only reason for being in the trailer is to look good, and that is what irks me.
Mark Ruffalo needs to be introduced as the new Hulk because he hasn’t been the Hulk before (it was Eric Bana then Edward Norton - and both movies flopped). Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America get more action because they had successful movies. Hawkeye admittedly doesn’t get a lot of action in the trailer, but he also didn’t get a lot of action in previous movies. Black Widow did. She was an integral part of Iron Man 2.
If you don’t think the way she’s portrayed in the trailer is a problem, consider the fact that I talked to someone tonight who thought Black Widow was only a vehicle for Scarlett Johansson being hot. Why did he think this? He saw the Avengers trailer. And no, I wasn’t in the backwoods. I was in Berkeley, CA - one of the most liberal places in the U.S.A.
The reason the guys don’t have to prove they’re not there for sex appeal is because this movie, like most comics, is marketed toward hetero men. It’s automatically assumed that they aren’t just there for sex appeal.
Again, I believe and trust that Joss Whedon made Black Widow a character beyond her sex appeal. I just wish that had been reflected in the trailer.
