This I understand and can get behind.
I am nitpicking semantics and it’s getting in the way of rationality.
Saying “[x] is better than [y]” (like “nerd life is…better than regular life”) though always at least connotes some kind of hierarchy and that makes me uncomfortable.

Saying “[x] is better than [y]” (like “nerd life is…better than regular life”) though always at least connotes some kind of hierarchy and that makes me uncomfortable.

  1. somnule said: I haven’t seen the video, but the idea that Nerd Life is better, I think, means that having an active curiosity, and seeking to understand the world around you, is the best way to live. It’s about a mindset, not a culture. I don’t now.
  2. shlabam said: I’d say there’s actually a fair amount of belief of hierarchy among nerdfighters. I repeatedly see GIF sets of John Green deriding or insulting people who are stupid or have stupid hobbies. It’s just hard to have a movement built around being nice.
